What Do You Feed Your Mind?

feed your mind

What information are you taking in on a daily basis?

Is it positive? Or like the majority of others are you digesting negativity?

Think about it…

What impact do we create if we incorrectly feed our body?

Eating doughnuts and McDonald’s every day for a month is going to be damaging on our physical body.

We know this because we see the impact in the physical form. We’ll put on weight, we’ll lose muscle mass and feel tired in the process.

All of these physical signs show us that what we feed our body has an impact on our lives.

Even though some people choose to ignore those signs (that’s another post in itself) they’re clearly there for us to see, monitor and do something about.

But what you feed your mind on a daily basis is slightly harder to track…

The Negative

Negativity is hard to avoid.

The news, social media, the music you listen too, the TV shows, the films, the people around you… a lot of the information you digest daily is negative.

Do you think a day of reading the news, listening to negative/aggressive music, watching a box set of a drama and surrounding yourself with fed up friends is going to put you in a good mind state?

Of course not.

Compare that to an early morning start where you exercise, read and do something that inspires you. You head to work listening to an audio book which gives you knowledge and throughout work you’re still surrounding yourself with positivity. You then have a conversation with someone who’s extremely successful (and is also in a positive mindset) and meditate/visualise/read affirmations before turning in for the night.

You’d be in a completely different mind set.

positive

Sure, that day above isn’t always going to pan out like that. I still enjoy watching TV shows (typically crime or drama) and negativity will always find a way to creep in but it’s controlling it as best as possible.

Again take responsibility for the information you digest. You’re in control.

You control whether you take in negativity daily or whether you take in positivity and also how you deal with it.

Aim to improve your current daily routine of digesting negativity by 75%. Seems a tough ask but in reality it isn’t.

You’re not expected to hit perfection straight away and disconnect from every negative message, but it’s important to start removing the bullsh*t you’re feeding your mind.

Here’s a good saying…

inhalegood

Remove all of the negativity, fear and thoughts you’ve been burying and start to ‘inhale’ positivity.

How Important Is It?

Try this simple exercise to understand the importance of feeding your mind with positivity over negativity.

Watch this video.

One of the biggest disasters of last year was the Paris shootings. This video is a short 30 second clip (with no audio) of some of the scenes. Something as simple as this can easily shift you in a negative mind state.

This is just a tiny percentage of what you’re fed on a daily basis through news channels, newspapers and magazines. Not forgetting the fact news now finds us via social media and the digital age.

Now watch this video…

Do you see the impact?

This video should get you pumped, it should get you excited, inspired and motivated to push on.

The Positive

Now you don’t even have to go to the extreme of listening to motivational speakers, deciding to switch off the news and listen to a Podcast which makes you laugh or gives you knowledge is a simple decision that will make a big change.

Here’s a few more ideas…

  • Read positive information every day (commit to just 10 minutes or 10 pages a day)
  • Watch positive videos on YouTube (Abraham Hicks, Ekhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins)
  • Learn more through TED Talks (Again, there’s hundreds on YouTube)
  • Build a mastermind/group of positive people you connect with
  • Get a mentor
  • Attend a positive webinar/seminar
  • Instead of listening to music in your car listen to audiobooks or Podcasts
  • Remove all negative friends and hide negative posts from your social media
  • Stop reading/watching the news
  • Don’t read the newspaper

It’s extremely important to be aware of what you’re digesting before bed as well. What you digest before bed will marinate, so reading or spending time with family is a good option.

Again it comes down to responsibility, and making a choice. Be consciously aware of what you’re feeding your mind and act on it.

Start to action the above and your mindset will change dramatically.

Remember ‘Inhale the good Shit, Exhale the Bullshit’.
