Have you ever sat looking at your To Do list and had no motivation to get going?
Ever said tomorrow will be a better, more productive day?
We’ve all been there, myself included last week as I struggled to get back into routine from 2 weeks in Costa Rica. I struggled to get into work mode, I was tired and all I wanted to do was eat junk and play hours upon hours of FIFA on the xBox.
I reverted back to bad habits and utilised these 5 steps I’m about to share with you.
Remember, SHAPE
To make things easy, I’ve broken it down into 5 easy to remember steps. Just remember SHAPE and you’ll remember the formula to get shit done.
1. State
I’ve mentioned it before, if you’re not in the right state (the right mindset) you’ll struggle to get shit done. If you feel tired, uninspired and even depressed you’re going to find it hard to get going. Change your state by exercising, reading something positive, getting inspired or even taking a cold shower.
2. Have A Plan
It’s good to have a To Do list but it’s also important to make it worth having. There’s no point writing down 15 tasks and feeling let down when you only complete 5. Keep your To Do lists small and focus on important tasks. Also plan your day the night before, schedule out time for each task and don’t forget to schedule in time to relax and enjoy yourself.
3. Avoid Distractions
The biggest killer of motivation is distractions. We’re so easily distracted by co workers, social media, blogs, our phones and even the desire to eat. Instead of relying on self discipline just cut off all distractions. Turn off your phone, use Anti Social (software) to block Social Media and head to a coffee shop or somewhere quiet to get shit done.
4. Prioritise
What’s the most important task? Make sure you do this first to gain momentum. Also think about when you’re most productive. Is it in the morning? The evening? 2pm or 1am? Make sure you prioritise your more creative tasks at the time you’re most productive. Most importantly reward yourself constantly. Your well being and enjoying life should be your biggest priority.
5. Excuses & Execute
Excuses stem from fear. “You can’t do this because…” “You’re not in the right mindset to do this today, do it tomorrow”. These are common excuses we tell ourselves when failing to get things done. Cut out the excuses and just execute. Get in the right headspace, get a plan and get your head down.

Stunning post!
